Tax Payments will be accepted by the Town of Canaan Tax Collector beginning January 1, 2024.
The Tax Collector will attend at the Town Hall at 1647 County Route 5 in the Town of Canaan on the following days: Monday and Wednesday from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Fridays from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm for the purpose of receiving payment of taxes. Payments are accepted in Cash or Checks payable to Canaan NY Tax Collector or online via credit, debit or e-check. The due date for bills without penalty is January 31, 2024 and we do accept the postmark. Beginning with February 1, 2023 there will be 1% interest charged on the balance which will increase by 1% each month on any outstanding balance. Second notices are sent out April 1st and an additional $2.00 notice fee will be added to the balance. Taxes may be paid in up to 3 installments - Please note interest will be charged monthly on any remaining balance.
All unpaid Town / County tax bills will be returned to the Columbia County Treasurer's Office in Hudson, NY on June 1st, 2024.
Note: Any tax payments made to the Columbia County Treasurer's office after the Towns collection period has ended will not be reflected on this website.
